Parent Coaching for Late Talkers
Let’s break this down…
Parent coaching (sometimes called caregiver coaching) means the SLP:
-
Guides and informs parents about what milestones and developmental language skills are expected for children at certain ages.
-
Once current skills and strengths of the child are established, a plan is developed between the parents and the SLP to grow upon these. This plan has one goal at its core-to incorporate strategies and techniques into the daily routine of the child that radically boost language growth. YOU become your child's biggest motivator and guide.
-
Virtual appointments are then directly carried out with a parent or caregiver to learn how to transform daily interactions into mini-speech sessions. You learn the “tricks of the trade” to maximize language growth all from your living room, the super market or the playground, you decide!

Is Parent Coaching right for me?
I strongly feel that every family's needs, especially when it comes to coaching and speech therapy, are highly unique. Those needs change based on many factors and life events.
If you are unsure, here are a few reasons why parent coaching could be the right fit for you.
-
You don’t have access to speech therapy locally but want to help your child
-
You have a lot of life transitions right now (moves, job changes, new schools) and it's difficult to commit to traditional speech therapy
-
You are on a waiting list for speech therapy and want to use the waiting time to “kickstart” language growth through parent coaching
-
Your child didn’t qualify for services, but you still want to learn ways to help them communicate
-
You’re interested in parent coaching in addition to speech services your child is already receiving
-
You work in a preschool or daycare and want to learn the best ways to help your families continue to nurture language development
-
You want to learn how to maximize communication development in every interaction with your child, even if they have no language delays
